FAIR PARK OPENS THURSDAY Texas Racing Scene to Shift From Arlington Downs to Popular Dallas Track. DALLAS, Texas, April 20. With the closing of the Arlington Downs season today, local attention is centered on the twenty-one day meeting to be held at Fair Park starting Thursday. According to general manager J. G. Reeder, Fair Park is ready for the meeting and, with good weather prevailing Sunday, Reeder expects several thousand racing fans to come out for the open house, the third held at the local course since construction of the track a year ago. In order to give trainers a chance to nominate their horses for the State Fair of Texas Handicap, down for decision opening day, and the Greater Dallas Handicap, to be run the first Saturday of the meeting, Reeder decided to close the races Monday at noon instead of the original date today. Many trainers at Arlington Downs, in making preparations to ship to Fair Park, failed to nominate their best horses for both ,500 added stakes, so Reeder thought best to hold the races open until trainers reached their new quarters at Fair Park. Sixteen nominations were received up to noon Saturday for the State Fair of Texas Handicap, while the Greater Dallas has drawn so far such stars as Jens Son, Bold Lover, Rip Van Winkle, Sweeping Light, Crout au Pot, Blessed Event, Wacoche, Marmara, Biff and Girl Scout. The Greater Dallas is over the mile route, while the opening day stake will be run over the George course. More than 200 horses are expected to move to Fair Park beginning Sunday, and some of the largest stables that raced at Arlington Downs will be among the strings at the Dallas course. Numerous improvements have been made at the local track since the fall meeting. Reeder expects to have the plant in perfect order for the visitors Sunday.
