DESERT CALL, close up in the early racing, challenged strongly midway of the turn, was forced wide when drawing abreast of BONSOIR, responded stoutly and was up in the last sixteenth. BONSOIR showed nice speed while setting the pace, shook off DARK WAR arid DAVOC, swerved out entering the home stretch, but held on courageously to the end. MOUNTAIN ELK raced stoutly from the start and closed gamely on the inside of the two leaders. DAVOC was under strong handling from the beginning and showed a good effort after coming wide for the final drive. HIGHEST POINT saved a great deal of ground entering the home stretch, but could not engage the leaders. DARK WAR raced strongly for five-eighths, then tired. SPARKY could not reach the leaders. CANDESCENT, rushed hard to gain a slight lead in the early racing, met persistent bids from GOLDEN SCEPTRE and DARK VIVE, came again after being displaced midway of the home stretch and was going away at the end. VACILLATE was vigorously rushed from the beginning and tired after taking a slight lead in the closing eighth. STAR QUEEN worked her way up on the outside and finished with good courage. DARK VIVE tired after five-eighths. MINNA closed fast. FEUDAL LORD was badly shut off. leaving the back stretch and could not recover thereafter. WINTER SPORT, away in the first flight and sent into immediate contention, responded strongly after reaching the home stretch and wore down BETH BON right at the end. BETH BON sprinted into a clear load at once, displayed nice speed while holding command and held on well when challenged. BEAUFLOWER lost ground entering the home stretch, but came resolutely after straightened. CONQUER met with interference leaving the back stretch, recovered quickly to enter contention by saving ground at the stretch turn, but faltered right at the end. WISE DUKE broke slowly, was forced to the .outside and finished fast. PROSY raced well-placed early, but could not stay in the final drive. JUBILEE JIM came through tight quarters during the final drive. AROUSED caused some crowding while racing forwardly early. DELPHINIUM was never a factor. RIVER ROSE, steadied in close attendance of ARMY GAME for the first three-quarters, took command readily when reaching the home stretch and was kept under pressure to the end. ARMY GAME was hustled into the lead at once, raced under slight reserve for the first three-quarters, but could not resist the winner when shaken up in the final drive. TARTAN BETSY, shuffled back going to the first turn, raced to the outside and closed gamely. VIVA PETE raced prominently and had no excuse. LIEBCHEN, slow to get going, moved up fast approaching the last turn, but failed to rally thereafter. LULU LITE raced well in spots. ABERCROMBIE was done early. FOREIGN LADY had no mishaps. PLAT EYE, in splendid shape and away nicely, took command going to the turn, was rated intelligently while setting the pace, met a strong bid from BLOODROOT in the last three-sixteenths, saved ground and held on with excellent courage under strong handling. SUN FAIRPLAY swung to the outside in the last half mile and closed with a tremendous rush. COMMONWEALTH, steadied along for the first three-quarters, gained fast when released from restraint and finished in resolute fashiqn while c,oming through between horses in. the closing eighth. BLOODROOT raced in nearest pursuit of the leaders while on the, outside, drew on almost even terms with the winner midway of the final turn, but tired during the closing eighth. TUTTICURIO raced in his best form, but could not menace. DEMONSTRATION was interfered with when COLD SHOULDER bolted to the inside at the start, but closed gamely when finding clear racing room, YOUNG NATIVE and VAIN BACHELOR quit after three-quarters. MADDENING, nicely handled and permitted to settle into her best stride before entering contention, swung to the outside of NEWELL when reaching the home stretch and held on determinedly after gaining command in the last eighth. NEWELL, taken up at the start, was rushed up on the inside to enter contention, came around SISTER VINIE and SUNDROPS to take command, but faltered from his early efforts when the real issue came. FAIR VERBENA closed stoutly during the final drive after being slow to get going. OGLE dropped back badly leaving the back stretch, then came with a belated spurt when straightened into the home stretch. ONLY FOOLIN was held safe. DARKLING, going in improved fashion and closer to the pace than usual in the early running, came willingly after engaging the leaders at the final turn and wore down FLYING DERE inside the final eighth. FLYING DERE raced BIG SHOW into submission, saved ground, but faltered from her early efforts and tired in the closing drive. BRASS MONKEY dropped far out of contention early, secured racing room on the inside until leaving the back stretch, and came very wide thereafter to close with a rush. BANDERLOG raced well-placed and had no excuse. POLO BAR could not threaten seriously when placed to a drive. FLAXEN was held safe. BIG SHOW was used up early and quit when challenged.
