It was won last year by Esseff. The Clark will be augmented by seven other races to form a brilliant opening card next Saturday. A secondary feature at seven furlongs will serve as the seventh race. It i3 for three-year-olds, for a purse of ,200 and will draw to the post a number of candidates for the Kentucky Derby. The fifth race will attract the better grade of two-year-olds over the route of four and a half furlongs. Another juvenile event, for maiden fillies, at the same distance, will be run as the second race. The fourth race will bring out the higher class of performers in the claiming division in a six furlongs sprint. The first, third and eighth races are claiming events at six furlongs, one mile and one-sixteenth, and one mile, respectively. The racing card from Monday on throughout the week preceding the Derby has been decorated with liberal purses to produce high class sport for the crowds from out-of-town who come for the Derby-week racing. On Tuesdays card is a ,500 purse at a mile, for three-year-olds, which will serve many of the Derby candidates as a final test for the big race. Each day has its especial feature that will attract to the post the best in its particular division. All of the leading eligibles for the Kentucky Derby are going about their training without mishap, and the event still shapes up as one of the most open in the annals of the race. Joseph E. Wideners Chance Sun continues to hold to the post of favoritism, although there is a growing tendency to consider almost as highly the chances of such other good ones as Mrs. Payne Whitneys Plat Eye, William Woodwards Omaha, Mrs. Isabel Dodge Sloanes Psychic Bid, Mrs. Walter M. Jeffords Commonwealth, E. R. Bradleys Boxthorn, Jouett Shpuses Weston and others of the first rank.
