IPAWTUCKET POLICING PLANS Three Trained Crews of Police to Patrol Narragansett Park Touts Con Men and Other Undesirables UndesirablesWarned Warned to Stay Away From Rhode RhodeIsland Island Course PAWTUCKET R L June 12 Walter E OHara managing director of Narragansett Park today announced plans for an inten ¬ sive unceasing drive to keep all touts con men and other undesirables out of the race track and the city of Pawtucket this year yearThree Three especially trained crews of police will cooperate to rid the Rhode Island park of the pests who have attempted to infest some otiier tracks in the country The po ¬ lice work at Narragansett attracted much favorable comment last year but OHara declared the campaign this year would be much more thorough and the results far greater greaterCapt Capt A C Whitey Layton who served at Narragansett last year and whose work at Maryland Florida and Texas tracks has made him the man every undesirable track character seeks to avoid will be back here this year with a much larger staff able to recognize any of the unwanted fraternity migrating to Rhode Island IslandTo To make the cleanup doubly certain OHara has employed a large staff of Pink ertons this famous detective group being especially trained to detect prospective pick ¬ pockets and their ilk With the Pinkertons ioining Laytons staff here the park itself is assured of a decided absence of under ¬ world characters charactersChief Chief of Police Leonard Mills of Paw tucket has assured OHara that many of the undesirables will have great difficulty get ¬ ting into the city of Pawtucket let alone reaching the race track Mills during the winter proved his ability to wage a suc ¬ cessful war on unlawful gambling and con ¬ fidence men when his department made scores of raids and arrests on bookmakers and closed up all the known operators in tho city cityMills Mills assured OHara that he has organ ¬ ized a special squad of detectives whose sole duty will consist of keeping the hangerson out of the city The track management has i been assured that any of the underworld fraternity will be severely dealt with in the state courts courtsThe The track has its own police station but the Pinkertons Captain Layton and Chief Mills are confident it will get little use as soon as news of the campaign here has reached the ears of the floating outcasts
