Victory of Day for Owner HOME WOOD III May 26 Taking to racing with a new zest after having been rested at the Benton 111 farm of her owner Clyde Troutt since the close of the New Orleans season the fiveyearold Hastinola entirely overlooked in the betting was a driving winner of the South Shore Handicap which headlined Wednesdays program at Washington Park With Paul Ryan in the saddle the daughter of Peter Hastings and Anola raced the threequarters in 115 over the heavy track to get the decision by a head Pressing the Illinoisowned winner for honors at the end was another outsider Mrs F A Carreauds sevenyearold War Glory with the wellbacked entiy of Mrs Emil Denemark Higher Cloud and Corinto mira ana lourm respectively war Glory beat Higher Cloud a length for second place while the start and showed the way for the first quarter but then Hastinola forged to the front to stay there to the end The Troutt mare opened up a sizeable lead on the stretch turn and maintained it to the final furlong where War Glory which had been well up from the outset gradually moved closer In a few more strides War Glory might have overtaken the ultimate winner which paid 5920 for 200 in the
