RUSH CHASE COURSE WORK Pimlicos Almost Ready to Revive Races for Jumpers Battleship Handicap Will Bo the Inaugural InauguralEvent Event Over Course Manly Steeplechase SteeplechaseScheduled Scheduled for November 14 BALTIMORE Md Oct 18 Pimlicos new steeplechase course will receive the finishing touches this week when the cedar brush is placed in the seven jumps The course has been inspected by a number of the countrys outstanding conditioners of jumpers and has been pronounced eminently satisfactory in every way wayThe The Battleship Handicap a new stakes event at Pimiico in honor of this years winner of the English Grand National will be the inaugural event over the course It is scheduled for the first day November 1 and will be the first race on what promises to be an excellent racing card November 1 is the day War Admiral and Seabiscuit are slated to meet meet18th 18th RUNNING OF MANLY MANLYThe The Manly Steeplechase comes up for its eighteenth running on Monday November 14 and sandwiched in between the two stakes events will be a daily race for the leapers A stipulation is made that the overnight entries will only be run if the course is in a satisfactory condition follow ¬ ing possible rains rainsWork Work on the new steeplechase course has been pushed all summer as the Maryland Jockey Club has been most anxious to revise this phase of the sport following a tempo ¬ rary abandonment caused by the removal of the old hilltop last spring springThe The present course Is a tribufe to the energy and skill of William du Pont Jr who offered his counsel and assistance in laying out the course and in the proper treatment of the turf Among those pronouncing the course excellent were Thomas Hitchcock Grainger Gaither John Bosley and a num ¬ ber of outstanding amateur riders who saw action over the old course and are slated for more action over the new strip stripSCHOOLING SCHOOLING DAY FOR JUMPERS JUMPERSEdward Edward J Brenncn racing secretary and handicapper for all steeplechase events at Pimiico has announced Friday October 28 as the date for schooling over the new course Brennan also has lined up the best crop of jumpers in the country for the forth ¬ coming autumn meeting of thirteen days and promises a revival of the sport on the same high and exciting scale as before beforeSteeplechase Steeplechase racing at Pimiico always has been popular in fact racing at the Mary ¬ land Jockey Club plant has been through all the ups and downs of the thoroughbred sport in the last sixtyeight years because it was sponsored by the true followers of the sport many of whom were owners of large and successful stables of jumpers The majority of the membership of the club and most of the regular patrons at Pimiico are devotees of crosscountry racing and will welcome the return of the jumpers so noticeably absent last spring
