CHEVY CHASE STEEPLECHASE Jumping Race Holds Center of Stage at Laurel Park Today Eight of Best Chasers In Maryland Named Namedfor for Race Hitchcock Names a aStrong Strong Pair LAUREL Md Oct 18 A steeplechase holds the center of the stage for midweek racing at Laurel tomorrow when the his ¬ toric Chevy Chase Steeplechase Handicap 1 will be renewed The test is at about two and onehalf miles and eight of the best jumpers in this section have been mustered for the running which will be the twenty sixth Only five interests are represented i as Rokeby Stable has named three and Thomas Hitchcock has a pair to represent him The race carries an added value of 3000 and is certain to attract a large dele ¬ j gation from the members of the hunting set setFavoritism Favoritism in the race is certain to fall 1 to Hitchcocks Annibal which will race cou ¬ pled with Rioter The fiveyearold gray son of Chubasco has been allotted top weight of the starters by racing secretary John P Turner who has seen fit to ask him to carry 160 pounds Despite this impost Annibal is expected to turn back his opposition Win ¬ ner of his two latest starts in New York one an overnight affair and later the Grand National in which his two opponents fell he appears to hold a distinct advantage over his rivals in the Chevy Chase ChasePROVES PROVES DISAPPOINTSIENT DISAPPOINTSIENTRioter Rioter raced coupled with Annibal in the Grand National but failed to complete the course Since that outing he made an ap ¬ pearance in the Governor Ogle Steeplechase over this track last Wednesday and was in stalled oddson favorite for the event After making a bad landing at the tenth fence he failed to regain his stride and finished a badly beaten last in the small field Of the others Rokeby Stables Good Chance Sea Ted and Coxswain appear the most formidable Good Chance turned in a corking performance to account for the Governor Ogle and showed his liking for this course by winning his previous start here also Sea Ted won a maiden race over the jumps but Coxswain appears to be over ¬ matched In the light of recent accomplish ments Brooks Parkers Homesteader has not raced since Delaware Park and he and Mrs Frank M Goulds Game Runner appear to be meeting company above their limitations Supporting the feature are two handicaps The fifth race is for grade A company and eight good members of this category have been named to contest the one mile and one sixteenth test The sixth race is for horses In grade C and eleven in this division are are well up to standard and the midweek program is one with which the association may feel satisfied
