WILLIAMS ASTRIDE WINNER Brilliant Apprentice Jockey Pilots Jocks Betsy to Feature Triumph Splttenlmage Makes Good for Favorite Flay ¬ ers In Narragansetts Second Event Conditions Favorable PAWTUCKET R I Oct 18 Mrs K Ramseys Jocks Betsy drew off from all rivals to win the six furlongs Mansfield Purse which featured the sport at Narra gansett Park this afternoon Sammy Wil ams piloting her home two and onehalf engths in advance of J Shugrues Esprit The winner was going easily and was under a snug hold at the end of the journey H B N Kanes Transday took the third award a neck off the runnerup and a head In ad ¬ vance of the favored Prunay The winner finished out in 112 112The The day was bright and sunny and the track fast A fairsized weekday crowd wag on hand for the sport sportEsprit Esprit outbroke the field but Roidef rap dly outran her However they had traveled ess than a quarter mile when Jocks Betsy sprinted into the lead and began to increase ler advantage reaching the far turn some hree lengths Roidef pursued her most closely until the turn for home where Esprit came placeDown again to move into second place Down the final straightaway Jocks Betsy md no trouble retaining a wide advantage and Williams began to ease up when it was evident he had the race won at the sixteenth ost Esprit fought on gamely in a hopeless attempt to catch the leader and staved off Transday for second place The latter came extremely fast in the final eighth eighthROIDEF ROIDEF QUITS QUITSRoidef Roidef quit badly after showing early peed Prunay was not in the hunt until the inal eighth finding some difficulty in ob alning racing room down the back stretch stretchLittle Little Spike Evans put up a beautiful frontrating ride on a horse that usually quits to land Mrs P A Shaws Foggy Morn shortpriced favorite home in the days opener at six furlongs Evans did not allow he filly to draw out as far as she usually does and as a result had enough left when she began to tire to get her over the line a icck In advance of the fastcharging Willow Wand from Mrs R Arbiques stable stableThere There was another victory for a favorite n the six furlongs second event as H R Dulany Jrs Splttenimage showed the way to T Powells Eva R by a head Mrs M J Whites Royal Bird finished third another neck back Eblis after being cut off several times finally managed to land fourth The time was 11273 Viajero set the early pace with the winner well back until they ap ¬ proached the far turn where he drove past dorses and took a good lead leadCalumet Calumet Farms Polly Girl drove to victory by a nose in the third event getting up in the final strides to beat R W Collins Donna Lopez Mrs M E demons Geodesian an extreme outsider was third two and one half lengths off the leaders and a nose in advance of Dianapat Raceaway was the warmest sort of good thing and set most of the pace only to tire badly when the real racing began and winding up fifth The win ¬ ner ridden by Berger finished in 114 114CANDAR CANDAR BY A NECK NECKSheldon Sheldon Fairbanks Candar drove up ex ¬ tremely fast from the eighth post to take the measure of D J Sullivans Takus by a neck in the six furlongs fourth event G H Ellis Semester took the third award two and one half lengths off the leaders and just a nose in advance of Genaibi The winner ridden by Stronsky finished in 112 Candar was an 3610A outsider In the betting paying 3610 A dozen sprinters from the claiming ranks made up the competition in the sixth race another dash of six furlongs P Mecklen ¬ burgs sixyearold Cudgel mare Hittie re ¬ ceived excellent handling from A Snider and consequently won the event by two lengths He got through a narrow opening at the six ¬ teenth post to move up and capture the race from Crowning Glory which took command momentarily when Woof began to back up after reaching command at the stretch The Mrs E A Roetel Bull Dog filly saved third a neck back of Crowning Glory and a hah length to the good of Harpen Belle
