HOUSE OF COMMONS VOTES VOTESFOR FOR ANGLOITALIAN PACT LONDON England Nov 3 Prime Min ¬ ister Neville Chamberlain had a free hand today to go forward with his policy of Euro ¬ pean appeasement following an overwhelm ¬ ing House of Commons vote in favor of the AngloItalian friendship pact Although submitted to sharp oppositionists criticism the pact was approved by the House by a vote of 345 to 133 Despite this defeat the laboritcs will continue to press for a vote of censure on the governments armament policy but the Prime Minister was reported to be indisposed and unable to take part in todays debate In urging ratification of the pact Chamberlain declared that the war in Spain was no longer a menace to European peace By a strange twist of co ¬ incidence a British chartered Spanish freighter registered at Santander was at ¬ tacked and sunk by a Spanish Insurgent warship ten miles off the Norfolk coast only a few hours before the vote was taken
