ROSERETTER TRIUMPHS Wins Lady Baltimore Handicap at Pimlico in Close Finish Noses Out Carvola and Savage SavageBeauty Beauty Celtic Legend Scores Scoresand and Pays 10350 for 2 BALTIMORE Md Nov 3 In a thrilling race and exciting finish Roseretter cap ¬ tured the second running of the Lady Balti ¬ more Handicap at Pimlico this afternoon before a goodsized crowd as pleasant con ¬ ditions again prevailed Responding steadily to the strongest sort of urging from Nick Wall who guided Esposa to victory in the 2500 added test of a mile and onesixteenth for fillies and mares last year the three yearold daughter of Teddy Garden Rose sporting the Foxcatcher Farms silks of Wil ¬ liam duPont Jr nosed out E K Brysons Carvola and W L Branns Savage Beauty the latter being the favorite favoriteShouldering Shouldering 108 pounds Roseretter ran I the distance in 145 and added 2535 to her earnings She dropped her nose in front of Carvola just an instant after the latter had wrested the lead from Savage Beauty The trio finished a length and onehalf be ¬ fore Dorothy Rock while Room Service was fifth and Rust sixth Roguish Girl the only other starter refused to break and did not participate in the running runningRUST RUST SETS PACE PACERust Rust set a steady pace until making the far turn where Savage Beauty advanced easily to assume command She opened up a clear lead heading into the stretch but she weakened gradually thereafter as Car ¬ vola rushed up quickly on the outside and Roseretter just plodded along to finish in between them and ahead of them after hav ¬ ing been in the middle of the pack from the start Dorothy Rock made a strong bid en ¬ tering the stretch only to weaken in the straightaway straightawayJohn John B Partridge and Jack Westrope com ¬ pleted a double in winning the Elk Ridge Purse the secondary feature with Our Ketcham after having scored previously with No Ending Running the six furlongs in 112 the threeyearold son of Spanish Play and Bunt which had been obtained by his present owner for 5000 out of a claim Ing affair defeated E R Bradleys Billion ¬ aire the oddson favorite by a length and onehalf Zostera representing William Ziegler Jr was another three lengths away with Unheralded at his heels Pit Bull and Savernake completed the field WESTROPE BIDES TIME TIMEWestrope Westrope rated Our Ketcham at the heels of Pit Bull and Billionaire until half way around the turn where the former tired The favorite forged to the front but responding to Westropes strong urging Our Ketcham gradually moved forward on the outside until taking command inside the final furlong and drawing away thereafter Zostera saved ground to move into third place as Pit Bull faltered falteredA A nose finish occurred in the Severn Purse for threeyearolds under allowance conditions at a mile and seventy yards and the picture showed Mrs Elmer Truemans Toddle On victorious over George D Wid cners Grass Cutter the favorite Milky Way Farms John One just got up to beat Bar Fly for third honors but he was three lengths back of the leaders leadersE E W Duffys Ballinderry proved best of Continued on thirtieth page ROSERETTER TRIUMPHS Continued from first page the dozen maiden juvenile fillies going six furlongs in the opening event being sent to the front at the head of the stretch by R Howell to hold sway to the end by two lengths over Mrs V T Carters Lady Timarole A similar distance back the Everglades Stables Alice Dodge was third thirdWESTROPE WESTROPE AGAIN AGAINUnder Under a strong ride from JackWestrope J B Partridges No Ending accounted for the second race a six furlongs sprint en ¬ gaging a dozen ordinary threeyearolds The InfiniteDickey Lee gelding forged to the front on the outside in the stretch to defeat W J Hirschs Dip by a length as Jouett Shouses Joanny was a close third with Graeme Cracker fourth fourthThomas Thomas Hitchcocks Farndale the oddson favorite won the Monkton Steeplechase mainly because of Rigan McKinneys riding He took the verdict over Gwladys Whttneys Miilrace by a length as Rokeby Stables Sea Ted was another dozen lengths back with Briar Blue much farther up the course Jolie Knight the only other contestant in the twomile event lost his rider at the eighth fence after setting the pace for the first turn of the field fieldG G Hoffmans Celtic Legend led all the way to win the seventh race over eleven other ordinary platers and to reward her few sup ¬ porters with 10350 for each 2 straight ticket She reached the end of a mile and onesixteenth a half length before Dark Re ¬ vue the favorite which probably would have won under smoother handling than she re ¬ ceived from R Holland Sea Gull was third B Hacker rode the winner
