RUSH NAVAL REARMAMENT WASHINGTON D C Nov 3 The United States today rushed plans for its gigantic 1200000000 naval rearmament program opening bids on three new 35000 ton battle ¬ ships The low bid of 49640000 was made by the Newport News Shipbuilding and Dry Dock Company of Newport News Va Other bids were the Bethlehem Shipbuilding Corp Quincy Mass 52145000 and New York Shipbuilding Corp Camden N J 54794 000 Each concern bid on one battleship only all to be completed within fiftytwo months The bids signalized commencement of a battleship prograi i far in excess of any warship construction since the World War
