CALEXICO EASY WINNER Cleary Horse Romps to Easy Victory in Giencoe Purse Johnny Longden Again Stars in the theSaddle Saddle With Numerous Winners Big Crowd at Arlington ARLINGTON HEIGHTS in July 14 Running six furlongs in 112 under 118 pounds C H dearys Calexico raced to an easy victory in the Giencoe Purse at Arling ¬ ton Park this afternoon The triumph was immensely popular with the large Friday crowd for the threeyearold son of Chicles odds were hammered down to 7 to 10 in the mutuels Sharing the spotlight with Calexico was jockey Johnny Longden the leading rider of the meeting who was scor ¬ ing his third triumph of the day with the Cleary colt coltI I Nine threeyearolds opposed Calexico and one of them Rude Awakening was second Rule All third and Beau Insco fourth fourthi i The Cleary colorbearer was among the leaders from the start and when called upon entering the stretch he responded with a rush He had been forced into close quar ¬ ters by Rude Awakening approaching the i stretch but when clear he quickly took com mand to leave little doubt of his superiority Calexico was in front by two lengths a fur ¬ long from the wire and made it three by the j time he reached the finish line with Long ¬ den still having him in hand handTAKES TAKES SECOND PLACE PLACERude Rude Awakening moved into second place after going a quarter and although she was able to put away the pacemaking Rule All she was no match for the winner In taking second honors Rude Awakening finished six lengths before Rule All which in turn beat Beau Insco a head for third money moneyA A disappointment of the race was the poor performance of Spin On which dropped back on the turn and never threatened thereafter thereafterThe The splendid weather today helped to attract a crowd of gratifying proportions It was one of the best attendances for a similar day during the meeting The track was fast fastJake Jake Lowenstein saddled another winner for Morris Vehon when Threadneedle beat a band of sprinters over seven furlongs in the first race The daughter of Reigh Count took the lead after going a quarter mile and then under the handling of Johnny Long ¬ den protected her advantage the rest of the way A popular winner her margin at the wire was two and a half lengths Miss Pitty pat moved into second place shortly after leaving the chute and turned in a steady performance to be second with Invincible finishing third Blazearound which ran fourth moved up menacingly on the stretch turn but seemed to tire near the end endTOWN TOWN SILVER IN FORM FORMW W H Goelitz Town Silver a juvenile daughter of Jamestown showed a tendency to stop in her last two starts here but she carried her speed to the end today to win the second race a dash at five and a half furlongs for twoyearold fillies Jockey Herb Litzcnbcrger got the Goelitz miss away from the post alertly put her on the lead at the beginning and kept her there to the end A handy winner she scored by a little more than a length and those who supported her in the mutuels received 2240 for 2 Blue Harmony the favorite was in hottest pursuit of the winner all the way and took the place a length and a half be ¬ fore Moonbow a firsttime starter Storcky from which much was expected dropped back steadily after the opening quarter quarterScoring Scoring his third victory of the meeting F H Williamsons Inviting turned back five other sprinters in the third event a test at seven furlongs Commission was second Busy Lutrccia third and Chcrovan which shared favoritism with the runnerup was next Inviting was the longestpriced horse in the race and the mutuel return on him I was 2620 for 2 Inviting ran his own race and apprentice Charles Wells had little more I to do than to sit still until he got near the vire where he rode him some to score by a length Inviting was permitted to remain well back of the leaders for a half mile and then after reaching the turn swept around the leaders and on to his surprise score Commission was hard ridden the last three 1 eighths but the best he could do was to take the place six lengths before Busy Lutrecia the tiring pacemaker pacemakerEMPHATIC EMPHATIC VICTORY VICTORYTotal Total Eclipse performing with Germanl f cus as part of the entry of Mrs P A Town 1 send scored an emphatic victory in the fourth race in which nine maiden thrce yearolds met at six furlongs The son of St Germans carrying Longden to his sec ond victory of the day took the lead mid jway around the turn drew out to score by five lengths and then continued out an addi ¬ tional quarter to round out a mile in 140 His time for the six furlongs was 112 t El Juez displayed his customary high early speed and showed the way until the winner came along Then he continued on to take the place as Red War a slight fa ¬ vorite over the winner was third
