BLACK HELENS BROTHER WINS Bimelech Recalls Deeds of Famous Filly by Empire City Triumph Second Start and Second Victory for Bradley Colt Demonstrates Unusual Ability in Winning Tarrytown NEW YORK N Y July 14 Edward R Bradleys popular white and green hooped silks conspicuous this year in New York by their absence were carried to an impressive 1 triumph today at Empire City by Bimelech twoyearold bay son of Black Toney La Troienne by Teddy Making the victory all the more important was the fact that Bime ¬ lech is reputed to be the best youngster in his owners expansive establishment establishmentAs As Bimelech came romping through the stretch to a very easy triumph in the five and onehalf furlongs Terrytown the fourth race of the day and most attractive on the program memories of his dazzling sister Black Helen were revived in the minds of the more studious followers of horses horsesBlack Black Helen it was recalled was a filly possessed of extreme speed and the ability to carry it over a distance of ground It also was recollected that in 1935 she defeated a crack field of both sexes in the Florida Derby now the Flamingo Stakes and that later in the year she won among other im por tant engagements the Coaching Club American Oaks OaksFUTURE FUTURE BRIGHT BRIGHTWhether Whether Bimelech is destined to pile up a record that will match that which his illustrious sister amassed remains to be seen But in winning yesterdays test at the Empire Racing Associations course he demonstrated unusual ability The race was his second and marked his second score He made his debut at Suffolk Downs on June 28 winning with ease easeSecond Second to Bimelech in the Tarrytown was B F Whitakers Last Frontier the second choice at 2 to 1 Big Flash under T D Taggarts silks finished third while Dion K Kerrs Port Wales was fourth and A L Astes Flying Duke fifth and last lastTiny Tiny F A Smith who is under contract to the Bradley stable was the riding star of the day with a double In addition to winning with Black Helens little brother he made good in the Salutatory aboard J B Partridges Phara Frost FrostTRACK TRACK MUDDY MUDDYRain Rain early yesterday morning turned the racing strip to mud Along the rail the going was deep Sun later in the morning and a brisk wind dried out the track con ¬ siderably but at post time for the opening event it was no better than slow The con ¬ dition of the track made Bimelechs score all the more creditable for he ran the five and onehalf furlongs in 22 46 106 and was only romping The track record for the distance is 105 105A A nasty accident in which the victim j jockey Bobby Dotter had what can be de ¬ scribed only as a miraculous escape from serious injury marred the running of the sixth race The mishap occurred at the six ¬ teenth post involved three horses and re ¬ sulted in the disqualification of the winner William Durkins Count Maurice which was i handled by Donald Meade MeadeMeades Meades mount had sprinted to the front immediately after the break for the mile and onesixteenth Ncontest Around the last turn Capt James with Dotter up headed Count Maurice for a few brief strides Meade soon had his mount in front again but by a nar ¬ row margin marginAs As the Durkin colorbearer rounded into the stretch he began to bear out carrying Capt James out with him Copper Tube the j choice had moved up fast around the turn and getting to the leaders when Meades mount started coming out also was carried wide wideINCREASES INCREASES LEAD LEADInside Inside the eighth post Meades mount be ¬ gan to increase his margin of leadership but kept bearing out slightly At the sixteenth post the horse suddenly headed toward the outside fence but Meade in a desperate ef ¬ fort to keep him straight sent him like a bow with his head toward the inside fence When Count Maurice swerved so badly hei came over on the closely pursuing Capt j James knocking him into Copper Tube I Down went Capt James throwing Dotter I heavily and rolling him on the ground Five horses behind him managed to jump or side ¬ step him The boy was stunned but soon arose and walked off the course courseMeade Meade managed to drive his mount to vic ¬ tory with Copper Tube the f avorite second Kievex third Jadaan fourth and San Pietro fifth fifthUpon Upon disqualification of the winner each of the next four were moved up one notch Thus Wall who had won the second with Silver dayThe Flame achieved a double for the day The stewards upon questioning Meade Wall and Dotter as well as the boy who ex ¬ ercises Count Maurice soon came to the con elusion that the mishap was purely acci ¬ dental
