FCC SUSPENDS RULE WASHINGTON D C July 14 The Fed cral Communications Commission retreated today from regulation of international broad ¬ casts by American stations which had been characterized as an effort at censorship The Federal Communications Commission sus ¬ pended the rule which directed that United States stations transmit only programs which will reflect the culture of this coun ¬ try and promote international good will un ¬ derstanding and cooperation By suspend ¬ ing the rule Acting Federal Communica ¬ tions Commission Chairman T H Brown declared that the commission would be able to proceed with consideration of evidence in connection with the controversial issue involved Brown said It cannot be em ¬ phasized too strongly that the commission has no desire purpose or intention of setting itself up as a board of censorship and that it does not and will not exercise such juris ¬ diction The commission then opened a hearing on a petition of the American Civil Liberties Union for modification of tha regulation of international broadcasts
