PATROL SCOUT STILL HAS ALL HIS SPEED SPEEDTakes Takes Lead at Start of Chelsea Handicap and Never Gives Way to Easily Defeat Topee and Votum VotumBOSTON BOSTON Mass May 28 Making his sec ¬ ond start of the year Mrs C C Winters Patrol Scout capable fiveyearold son of The Scout and Margie C flashed a return to his best form to account for the Chelsea Handicap one mile test that served as the headline attraction at Suffolk Downs today The Mrs C C Winters representative sped over the distance in 137 and came to the close wtih better than a twolength advan ¬ tage over Tallyho Stables Topee Third place went to Mrs H G Goods Votum with Oversight finishing in front of the only other starter Rough Pass PassPatrol Patrol Scout one of the better handicap performers in New England last season con ¬ tracted shipping fever en route from Rock ingham to Hot Springs last autumn For days it seemed that the son of The Scout would not pull through but on todays ef ¬ fort he must be considered just as capable as at any time in his career careerIn In the Chelsea Robart sent Patrol Scout to the front at once Votum followed the leader then came Topee with Oversight showing before Rough Pass The latter had dropped far back and trailed by many lengths as he brought up the reai The Win ¬ ters colorbearer continued to race out in front and was well clear of the Good colt as that worthy had daylight showing over Topee The other running positions re ¬ mained unchanged unchangedNEVER NEVER FALTERS FALTERSPatrol Patrol Scout showing no signs of falter ¬ ing was still well out in the command as the turn for home was reached Votum at this point had called it a day and it was Topee that took up the role of runnerup There was no catching the leader who reached the finish line well clear while To ¬ pee had drawn out to almost a threelength advantage over the Mrs Goodowned colt Oversight had played no serious part in the running but for offering a mild spurt after rounding the far turn Rough Pass contin ¬ ued to trail although making up ground rapidly when too late lateThe The midweek program served to attract a large and enthusiastic crowd Pleasant weather prevailed and the track was fast fastWise Wise Niece fleet daughter of Wise Coun ¬ sellor and Drollery from Maple Crest Farm who has been bearing out badly in recent endeavors was equipped with a oneeyed blinker and runout bit for the six furlongs of the Fenway Purse It was apparently what was needed to keep the Wise Coun ¬ sellor filly to a true course for she not only led for practically the entire trip but ran the fastest threequarter mile of the New England session making the distance in 111 Meadow Dew the favorite chased the winner over the line to be beaten by better than a length while enjoying a wide margin over Pavilion Although led from the stalls Wise Niece was in front in the next few strides Atkin ¬ son permitted the filly to run right along and before the opening quartermile had been covered was three lengths to the good Midway down the stretch Wise Niece at ¬ tempted to bear out but Atkinson had only to shake his whip at the filly to keep her straight and come to the line well clear Meadow Dew was going willingly and was four lengths in advance of Pavilion for her part of the purse The fractions for the race were 23 46 with the winner paying 1280
