NATIONAL HORSEMENS GUILD VOTE PURSE ASSESSMENT ASSESSMENTCHARLES CHARLES TOWN W Va May 28 At a meeting of the National Horsemens Guild held in the Thomas Jefferson Hotel at Charles Town W Va Friday evening it was unanimously decided henceforth to de ¬ duct 1 per cent from the winning purses of the members toward a sinking fund The assessment will be effective as of June 1 The money received will be used for vari ouspurposes The primary function how ¬ ever will be to aid any member who suffers the loss of his horse or horses and who thereby becomes stranded or unable to con ¬ tinue operations operationsTom Tom Lewis well known owner and trainer was elected assistant secretary and treas ¬ urer A committee of three comprising Lewis Lou Garthright and G H Pearce were appointed to distribute blanks among local horsemen who are members of the guild for the 1 per cent assessment assessmentAbout About 100 horsemen were present at the Friday session and they expressed their thanks to Al J Boyle general manager of the Chaiies Town Jockey Club for his in dorsing a minimum purse of 500 at the cur ¬ rent meeting which began Saturday May 24
