ANDNOW SHOWS WAY TO TEN RIVALS IN DETROIT OPENER OPENERHolds Holds ThreeLength Margin Over Ada W Jack Flinchum in Saddle SaddleDETROIT DETROIT Uich June 2 M Bransfields Andnow under the capable guidance of Roy Jack Flinchum proved an easy winner of the first race which engaged eleven fillies and mares at six furlongs over the Detroit Fair Grounds course today The fouryear old daughter of Morvich and Louise Wilson came to the close three lengths in advance of H M Walkers Ada W and the latter was a half length before I C Mishlers Buttons B Tie favored Marin flattered with a nice turn of speed for fiveeighths then gave way and could do no better than fifth fifthValroma Valroma was first to show out of the gate and down the back stretch held a head ad ¬ vantage over Marin while Buttons B was next a half length before Ada W and the ultimate victor fifth Approaching the final turn Marin went to the front when Valroma gave way and held a slight advantage over Ada W Buttons B was a determined third at this stage a head in front of Andnow AndnowOnce Once straightened up for the drive Flinchum went to work on the Bransfield filly and his mount responded readily After wearing down the leaders Andnow drew out steadily to the finish Ada W increased her margin slightly over Buttons B in the final sixteenth and was not under strong pressure to retain second honors honorsJO JO MARY MAKE GOOD GOODThe The silks of the locally owned Mrs J B Burnstein stable were carried to a driving twolength triumpli by Jo Mary in the second race which also engaged a field of twelve fillies and mares at six furlongs Jota fin ¬ ished second half a length in advance of the early pacemaker Hutoka Apprentice Sammy Parise handled the winner in faultless style and had his mount well placed from the start Entering the stretch Parise drove Jo Mary hard and his mount responded readily to wear down Jota and Hutoka The Burnstein filly paid 1860 straight and com ¬ pleted a Daily Double which was worth 7160 7160A A crowd of 6000 turned out for5 the eight race program offered at the local plant today and although most of the card was made up from the claiming class good sport was the order Several hotly contested con ¬ tests aided inbringing about an active atmos ¬ phere which prevailed throughout the afternoon afternoonAlthough Although no rain fell before the initial offering heavy cloud banks which occa ¬ sionally drifted over the course kept the temperature at a pleasant level and added much to the comfort of the gathering The track which was sloppy for Saturdays rac ¬ ing remained off but improved during the progress of the card cardThe The fourth race which was a combina ¬ tion affair for twoyearolds served as one of the better events on the card and at ¬ tracted six of the speediest juveniles quar ¬ tered at the Fair Grounds
