C E McLANE DIES DIESBALTIMORE BALTIMORE Md June 2 Charles E McLane former president of the Maryland Jockey Club which operates PImlico race track died yesterday at his home In Brooklandville after a long illness He was 70 years of age A member of one of Marylands most prominent families both in sporting and political fields McLanes grandfather served as secretary of the treasury and secretary of state during president Jacksons administration His uncle was governor of Maryland and a cousin was the mayor of Baltimore McLane al ¬ ways had keen interest in horse racing and became president of the Maryland Jockey Club In 1917 Upon his retire ¬ ment from that position in 1938 he was succeeded by Alfred G Vanderbllt
