PEGGY BYRD TAKES MEASURE OF SYNERGIST AT DETROIT DETROITDETROIT DETROIT Mich June 24 The silks of Mrs E Cloud were carried to a handy two and onehalf lengths victory by Peggy Byrd in the first race at the Detroit Fair Grounds today A Cleffs favored Synergist finished second and was a length in advance of J H Cornells Short Measure which ran third to down the nine other platers which met in the sixfurlong sprint sprintPeggy Peggy Byrd was first to show in front leaving the stalls but she was quickly dis ¬ placed by Synergist which was hustled along sharply in the early stages At the quarter post Synergist held a halflength advantage on Short Measure wliich wasa like distance in r vancc of the ultimate win ner This also was maintained around the upper turn until approaching the stretch where Synergist increased his margin to a length and Peggy Byrd moved up second a length and onehalf on Short Measure MeasureJockey Jockey Kempton Knott who had the mount on Peggy Byrd went to work on his charge when she was straightened for the drive and after a spirited stretch duel with Synergist Peggy Byrd disposed of the pace ¬ maker and drew out steadily to the final marker
