the Gazelle Stakes at Aqueduct tomorrow afternoon Mrs Payne Whitneys recordbreaker will be opposed by seven capable fillies in this mile and a sixteenth test which not only is the stellar attraction of a promising midweek program but also is one of the most significant of the coun ¬ trys fixtures for the age and sex division divisionTangled Tangled must carry 124 pounds in the Ga ¬ zelle and concede weight to all but Ella K Brysons Cis Marion but shapes up as a strong choice off her recent triumphs in the Top Flight Handicap at Belmont Park and the Delaware Oaks in which she raced to a new track record of 149 for a mile and a furlong furlongCis Cis Marion won the Pimlico Oaks in early May and then came back to finish a fast closing second in the Acorn at Belmont so will come in for some support to whip the daughter of Sweeping Light The Marshall Field entry of Strange Device and Up the Hill also will attract some of the play The former won her seasons debut at Aqueduct in Tangled No rider was named yes ¬ terday morning for Cis Marion who trained at Delaware DelawareStrange Strange Device may prove the key to the Gazelle This strapping filly is fresh and fit and some workwatchers believe she holds sufficient speed to soften up Tangled if the latter cares to make a pace duel of It early Strange Device worked well for her debut in which she put in a sizzling six furlongs in 111 in front of Dotted Swiss Dini and Tex Hygro She went three furlongs in 36 this morning while her dis ¬ tance final was a mile in 140 after three quarters in 113 That was on the training track Up the Hill who is coupled with Strange Device has been six furlongs in 113 for this engagement and is fit enough Meade will ride one of the pair probably Strange Device DeviceNasca
