SON ALTESSE NEVER HEADED IN DELAWARE FEATURE RACE RACEComes Comes to Final Marker Three Lengths in Front of Red Dock DockSTANTON STANTON Del June 24 Son Altesse turned in his first winning effort since the Havre de Grace meeting when he made every post a winning one over the one mile and seventy yards of the Lariat Handicap main attraction offered at Delaware Park this afternoon The H Guy Bedwell representa ¬ tive made a clean sweep for Maryland bred horses in the first six races and reached the finish three lengths before Greentree Stables Red Dock the top weight under 122 pounds D J Sullivans Seven Hills was third three parts of a length farther back He Rolls Arkansas Derby winner and like Seven Hills the representatives from the threeyearold ranks was fourth and Re ¬ gent a stablemate of the winner was the trailer in the small field of five fiveIt It was the second start of the meeting for the Bedwell fouryearold and he was taking off five pounds from his race against West nesia in the Memorial Day Handicap Despite this Red Dock who was called upon to pick up poundage after being well beaten in the Brandywine and Memorial Day Handicap was installed the favorite favoriteNaturally Naturally He Rolls and Seven Hills re ¬ ceived a concession in the weights but not by the scale and Regent under 110 pounds was the actual minimum weight weightWith With Mannie Berg at the reins and break ¬ ing from the inside position Son Altesse was the first in command He attained a long lead during the run to the back stretch with He Rolls in closest pursuit and Red Dock and Seven Hills following in close order At the upper turn Bodiou sent Red Dock for ¬ ward but Seven Hills on the outside at ¬ tempted to pocket him and the pair came to the stretch aligned alignedRed Red Dock proved best and moved into second place when He Rolls retired then steadily increased his advantage over the Sullivan representative Regent had no mis ¬ haps for Albert Shelhamer took the horse to the inside rounding the upper turn and saved ground thereafter The program opened under overcast skies but they cleared later The track classified as good for the first four races was worked into its best condition for the fifth race and Son Altesses time of 143 was vyithin four fifths of a second of Masked Generals rec ¬ ord The crowd was a large one oneSTEEPLECHASE STEEPLECHASE WINNER WINNERPhillips Phillips Pete from the stable of Walter Wickes was an easy winner of the steeple ¬ chase race that served as the third event and for which Eran De Perse was the fa ¬ vorite The talent did not get much run for their money for Roby rushed him into the second jump and he came a cropper Golden Oak showed better running ability over the stiaightaway and wore down King Cob to take the second award in the last stages Simoon was fourth some six lengths farther back Our Sailor had the most speed but he showed little jumping ability under Mr Morris H Dixons handling and at none of the jumps did he fence cleanly This enabled the winner to go into command after clear ¬ ing the twelfth brush and he held sway thereafter
