Take Wing Seen as Peabody Probable Would Mark First Outing of Season SeasonTroutts Troutts Bargain Claim of 42 Works Mile in l5035 Over Muddy Stickney Strip StriptTICKNEY tTICKNEY 111 May 25 Mrs Clyde Troutts Take Wing who emerged from the claiming ranks last year to compete suc ¬ cessfully with some of the best handicap horses in the Middle West is about ready to return to competition and may take part in the 5000 Francis S Peabody Memorial Handicap highlight of the War Relief pro ¬ gram the Lincoln Fields Jockey Club will present at Hawthorne on Decoration Day next Monday Take Wing who has been away from the races since last fall has been training in steady fashion and though trainer Clyde Troutt would prefer to get one race under the horses belt be ¬ fore starting him in a stakes he is seriously considering sending him after the Peabody Memorial whether a preliminary race is possible or not Take Wing this morning moved a step nearer his top form when he worked a mile around the dogsfi on the half mile Sports ¬ mans Park race track and he accom ¬ plished this effort on a muddy racing sur ¬ face in 150 handily handilyLast Last year the Troutts claimed Take Wing for 3000 and a few days later had the pleasure of seeing him win the 10000 Stars and Stripes Handicap at Arlington Park from a field that included Marriage and Equifox Later he captured the Floss moor Handicap at Washington Park and in so doing set a worlds turf course record of 151 for a mile and a furlong furlongTurned Turned Out During Winter WinterIn In other notable performances under the Troutt silks the son of Chicle ran second to Marriage in the Grassland Handicap which was also won in worlds record time was second in the Illinois Owners Handi ¬ cap and fourth in the Hawthorne Handi ¬ cap capNot Not a sound horse all of last year Take Wing was turned out during the winter and before returning to serious training this spring was fired for leg trouble He now shows no signs of his infirmities and Troutt looks for another profitable cam ¬ paign with him himIf If he starts in the Peabody Memorial at a mile and a sixteenth next Monday he may encounter sxich horses as Valdina Farms Valdina Orphan Mrs Marie Evans Shot Put River Divide Farms Best Seller John M Hutchins Woof Woof and Wish ¬ bone and A C Ernsts Aletern AleternTwentyfour Twentyfour horses are eligible for the Decoration Day headliner but how many of them will start will depend upon track conditions The racing strip at Hawthorne was heavy today todayMeanwhile Meanwhile there was considerable specu ¬ lation on the possible size of the field for the 5000 Joliet Stakes a fivefurlong spin for twoyearolds which will be presented on Saturday Here again track conditions will be a deciding factor for owners and trainers of many of the more promising juveniles are not eager to start their charges unless the racing strip is dry The stakes drew 60 nominations and if the track is fast or nearly so as many as 12 may accept the issue
