Jockey M. Caffarella drove Mandel Goffs leggy colt through along the rail at the furlong pole in this 0,000 charity week feature and arrived at the finish three lengths in advance of the Arkansas Derby winner, Challenge Me. Another length separated the Brolite performer from A. C. Ernsts Alorter, who finished third just before Shut Up. Chal- lenge Me paraded as the favorite and the winner returned 2 for after carrying his 121 pounds over the distance in 1:5235. The race was decided in a drizzing rain and before an enthusiastic gathering of some 10,000. The going remained fast, however. The successful Pittsburgher earned ,800 and his performance contrasted sharply with that he exhibited in the Stony Point, wherein he essayed to win throughout. Although she was unplaced. Hyman Friedbergs brilliant Harriet Sue ran a highly creditable race. She was sent out to essay winning from flag-fall to finish and succeeded admirably to well inside the final furlong pole, where Challenge Me knocked her out of contention after a futile effort to pass her after the first mile. To | that juncture Challenge Me and Alorter : were unable to match her speed under driv- ing tactics. Intermittent Sprinkles Though the skies were overcast and the matinee was marred by intermittent sprin- j kles, the Blue Grass attracted a large midweek attendance and wagering was brisk throughout the day. The Blue Grass was a question of catch-. ing Harriet Sue until she was bothered mid- j way the stretch. Higley had an armload of wraps on her in the run first time -past the j stands to the clubhouse turn and she sailed along, pricking her ears a half length before Alorter and Challenge Me, who were driving to keep up. Meanwhile, Skytracer was sagaciously taken off the pace and allowed to loaf along in the ruck to bide his time. Down the backstretch, Alorter was eased back a trifle when Adams sensed the fu-r tility of attempting to outrun the filly, and Skoronski, evidently bent on wresting the lead, kept gouging Challenge Me outside the Friedberg colorbearer. Midway the home turn, these two were several lengths in front of the others and still Challenge Me was driving after Har-t riet Sue. Near the eighth pole, Skytracer ! was beginning to move up on the inside of the pair and Challenge Me went in on the pacemaker, knocking her off stride badly. Skytracer thereupon moved to the front with Alorter following him to contention. I Over the last yards, Skytracer drew out slightly under pressure and Challenge Me lasted to repel Alorter a length for the place.
