More Combinaiioin Races at Detroit DetroitIncrease Increase Number of Such Offerings Effective With Condition Book of June 19 19DETROIT DETROIT Mich June 10 The choice of entering charges to be claimed or nob in any and all claiming race classifications thereby encouraging presentation of com ¬ bination events is to be given horsemen at the Fair Grounds GroundsRacing Racing secretary Charles F Henry today revealed that beginning with the June 19 issue of the condition book increased com ¬ bination affairs are to be offered Accord ¬ ing to outlined conditions this type of event will serve a twofold purpose It will en ¬ courage horsemen to liberally enter charges and possibly restrict activities of halter men Naturally its primary purpose is to elicit entries and it is expected that the loose conditions applying to these races will do just that thatTo To be known as platercombination races these events will vary for platers ranging from the 3500 down to 1000 category They will be fashioned for horses that have started at the meeting either in a plater purse or a claiming race for a given sum If a horse has not started afc this meeting in either kind of a race it will be first necessary for the individual to engage in a claiming race before beingr eligible lor the platercombination affairs affairsMust Must Take Up ThreePound Penalty PenaltyHorses Horses entered not to be claimed will ba forced to carry a threepound penalty above the weight stipulated for their age Incidentally the waiver clause whereby a horse may or may not be entered to be claimed will permit entering of an entry one horse to be claimed and the other not This will facilitate matters for horsemen who have horses of almost identical valua ¬ tion but who possibly do not care to enter one or the other with a claiming price In this case one may be tagged and the other riot riotAs As an example of conditions for a plater combination race it may be mentioned in passing that such contests will in some cases be for starters in a 1250 plater purse or less or at a claiming price less than 1300 and not over that amount since May 19 For such a race weights would be 108 pounds for threeyearolds and 118 for other horses The claiming price of course would be 1250 with weights for that consideration set at 105 pounds for threeyearolds and 115 for older horses and if entered for 1100 al ¬ lowed two pounds and for 1000 five pounds poundsIncidentally Incidentally Henry wishes attention called to the interpretation of plater purse races This type of event is a race in whicli horses must have started in a claiming race for a given sum
