Free for All Is Retired For Remainder of Year Decision Announced Following Conference of Marsch, Parke LOUISVILLE, Ky., June 1.— Following a ] conference this morning at Churchill Downs between owner John Marsch and i trainer Burley Parke, it was definitely de-j cided to retire the ailing Free for All for ! the remainder of the year. The three-year-1 old colt will shortly be transferred to Alma-i hurst Farm. Free for All had been nominated for the j Kentucky Derby and most of the other big ! three-year-old classics and. indeed, it was while he was in the process of training for I the Derby that he suffered the injury that has put him on the shelf. Te colts indis-i position was discovered Wednesday evening after he had indulged in an impressive trial. between races at the Downs. Free for All cooled out satisfactorily following the workout, but it was later discovered he had developed a filling in a tendon in his left foreleg. Although attending veterinarians advised owner Marsch the . colt quite possibly would recover sufficiently within 60 days to resume training, it was definitely decided to keep him idle j the remainder of the season. Free for All was undefeated as a two-year-old when he won five straight races. J and he won his first start as a three-year-old this spring at Churchill Downs. How-! ever, the colt suffered the first defeat of | his career when he ran fourth behind Burning Dream, Best Effort and Foreign j Agent in last Saturday* one-mile Derby I trial. ,
