Appoint Donald 6. Smith To Del Mar Directorate DEL MAR, Calif.. June 1.— Donald* B. Smith, widely known San Diego businessman and sportsman, was named to the board of directors of the Del Mar Turf Club, filling the vacancy created by the resignation of Fred Poggi. Smiths appointment was announced by j general manager W. F. Tunney following j a board meeting in Los Angeles early this | week, attended by Pat OBrien, Kent Allen j and Charles S. Howard. President Bing | Crosby, on an eastern bond tour, voted by proxy. The move completes the executive board as the San Diego County track prepares for the opening July 11 of its sixth meeting and first session of racing since 1941. The new director, 37, is a co-owner of the San Diego Bombers and is a former president of the Pacific Coast Professional Football League. He was the chairman of the recent San Diego County Red Cross war fund campaign. For the past five years he has been president of the San Diego Symphony Orchestra Association.
