Maywood Will Have 700 Head for Its Meeting MeetingLargest Largest Number of Horses Ever Available for 60Night Stand StandThe The unprecedented number of 700 horses will be available for the Maywood Park 160night harness meeting which opens at the North Avenue and River Road half mile course on Monday night General manager Sam Wiedrick announced that 550 horses are quartered in the Maywood stable area filling it to capacity while 50 trotters and pacers are housed in large tents in an area west of River Road An ¬ other 100 horses are stabled at Aurora Downs and will be vanned to Maywood for the races racesThe The number of horses ready for the meeting is almost double the total May wood Park attracted in its first year in 1946 Last year Maywood Park housed 450 trotters and pacers but the halfmile plant enlarged its stables this spring springThe The heavy arrivals began on April 15 and have increased steadily Maywood Park this season is offering 350000 20 per cent more than a year ago in total purse distribution There will be 23 stake events including the 10000 Preview Trot on Friday night June 18 and the 10000 Chicago Pacing Derby an invitational af ¬ fair which last year was won by Dr Stan ton and which will be held in mid July JulyThe The 700 horses represent 17 states and three foreign countries England Italy and Canada The foreign entries include Sorrell Direct threeyearold pacer bred in Sussex England Grand Parade four yearold trotter owned by Count O P Mangelli of Milan Italy a harness horse breeder and Mighty Atom pacer and De Al Stan trotter owned by Alex Parsons of London Ontario OntarioMaywood Maywood Parks opening night feature will be the Inaugural Pace which will be raced in two divisions one at a mile and the other at ninesixteenths of a mile
