Tupinambas Premio Balleza Victory Earns Him Backing for Mexicos Classic Last to Final Quarter He Takes SevenFurlong Sprint While Easing Up UpHIPODROMO HIPODROMO DE LAS AMERICAS Mexico D P May 7 Tupinamba the Cuadra Mexico representative in the Hand ¬ icap de las Americas showed his fitness for the coming race here last Sunday He made oneof the best stretch runs seen here since the days of Gay Dalton in winning the sevenfurlong Premio Balleza BallezaPacking Packing the same weight he will carry in the Handicap de las Americas the four yearold sori of Jean Valjean had to be much the best of his opponents as he was practically left at the post and going around the clubhouse turn was more than 18 lengths to the rear of the leaders The Cuadra Mexico colorbearer was still 16 lengths back as they straightened put on the backstretch and it was not until they reached the far turn that Tupinamba made his rush A quarter of a mile from the finish Tu ¬ pinamba was still last but making up ground rapidly as Ruben Gracida went to the whip and cut the margin to little more than eight lengths lengthsGracida Gracida took no chances with the Handi ¬ cap de las Americas candidate and swung him around the leaders as they entered the stretch this with a big loss of ground but once he was straightened away in the stretch the big colt easily disposed of Pituri after passing the last eighth At the latter post Tupinamba was only two lengths back of Pituri but as he got to the front a six ¬ teenth from the finish he began to loaf and bore over badly to the inner rail railThe The effort was a splendid one and much credit must be given his rider as the local boy did not rush his mount after breaking slowly and permitted him to run his own race the first five furlongs furlongsThose Those in attendance who saw the per ¬ formance give the Cuadra Mexico horse a chance to draw down the major portion of the Handicap de las Americas as he was not doing his best after wearing down Pituri and it is generally believed that he would prefer the mile and a quarter distance of the Americas to the seven furlongs of the Premio Balleza a race in which he turned the distance in 126 126A A few horsemen timed Tupinamba the last threeeighths of a mile and all agreed the colt covered the trio of panels in 35 despite the fact he loafed the final sixteenth of a mile
