Buzfuz Meets Five Rivals in Croyden CroydenTakes Takes Up 122 While Facing Cornish Knight Lets Dance And Lord Grillo at Jamaica JamaicaJAMAICA JAMAICA L I N Y May 12 The 6000 Croyden Handicap at six furlongs which heads tomorrows program promises to provide one of the best sprint events of the waning meeting While only six have been entered they are headed by Mose Rauzins Buzfuz at 122 pounds and this fellow is asked to meet such stiff opposition as E P Taylors Cornish Knight 114 Sunshine Stables Lets Dance Gustave Rings Lord Grillo and La Pomme Studs Brisket 110 each and A F Flocks Tavi stock 109 109Buzfuz Buzfuz finished last of four in his last start here at five and onehalf furlongs on Saturday but little more than a length separated him from the winner Mango hick Buzfuz is probably not quite the star that he was an opinion evidently shared by racing secretary John B Campbell who has dropped him to class B but he retains enough speed to be exceedingly dangerous In his previous start he finished fourth be ¬ hind Miss Disco in the Interborough Handicap beaten only two necks by Tavistock who finished second and who receives five pounds less tomorrow tomorrowBoth Both Won Last Starts StartsCornish Cornish Knight and Lord Grillo won their last starts here Cornish Knight beat Coincidence at a mile and a sixteenth some three weeks ago setting a moderate pace all the way while Lord Grillo scored an upset at the same distance over Donor and Conniver also leading all the way and at about the same rate of speed speedLets Lets Dance finished a head in front of Buzfuz his former stablemate in the Pau monok Handicap on opening day April 11 getting 13 pounds and receives only one less tomorrow However he appeared to have an edge in condition over Buzfuz for that race However if the speed horses in this dash literally cut each others throats Frank Mormiles charge may be able to run over horses in the stretch with Con McCreary providing one of his cus ¬ tomary finishes finishesBrisket Brisket is a gelded son of British Em ¬ pire who was one of the best sprinters in Argentina in 1946 and 1947 but confined his efforts almost exclusively to five and five and a half furlong dashes on straight courses He succeeded in carrying as much as 136 pounds against the best speedsters at Buenos Aires and over muddy tracks before appearing to lose his form toward the end of last year Brisket has been training well but is a candidate for next Mondays Toboggan Handicap on the Widener straightaway at Belmont Park a 25000 dash in which he may be more at home homeAnother Another small field has been named for the 5000 Spring Board Purse an allow ¬ ance test at a mile and a sixteenth that precedes the Croyden Belair Studs Hypnos tops the four named for this test with 119 pounds He will be opposed by Wing Mes ¬ senger and Smart Eddie at 116 each and Lex at 113 They are a wellmatched group with Hypnos appearing to have just a shade more class than his three rivals
