Thirteen Sprinters Meet In Village Green Purse PurseTim Tim B and Tarpan Each to Take Up 122 Pounds in Suffolk Event EventSUFFOLK SUFFOLK DOWNS East Boston Mass May 17 Thirteen betterthanaverage speedsters have been named through the 1 entry box for the sixth and featured event on tomorrows Suffolk Downs program An allowance dash at six furlongs for a 3500 purse the race is named the Village Green and will be represented by 11 different in ¬ terests terestsMt Mt Desert Stables Tim Bv and the Frances Stables Tarpan are held at equal topweight of 122 pounds and if either start startthey they will concede as much as 18 pounds to tothe the lightweight Gallant Foot owned by Mr and Mrs A Ferrara Each of the top weights have started four times this spring over the local oval with Tarpan tri ¬ umphing twice and Tim B being success ¬ ful on one occasion Both have displayed a liking for an off track that is a possi ¬ bility due to the inclement weather of the past four days daysTomorrows Tomorrows lineup includes two who will be making their initial starts of 1948 should they be sent postward Sandy Strand Sta bles Bert a nominee for the Plymouth Rock Handicap Saturdays stake enters the race with a record of four victories in 13 starts during 1947 and recent trials have been on the slow side Mr Chanman Reynolds Brothers stake winner of last year is the other who is making his sea ¬ sonal bow The Nedayr colt has always shown a liking for the local strip espe ¬ cially in the heavy going that found him returned winner of the 1947 renewal of the Governors and Commonwealth Handicaps on successive weekends Should the pres ¬ ent condition of the track change suffi ¬ ciently enough to make the strip fast it is improbable that Mr Chairman will be started Seasoned campaigners who rate consid ¬ eration in the test are Sam Garfields Res ¬ pire and Gunnison stablemate of Mr Chairman Each were winners of their last races against formidable opponents and are capable of running over any kind of a race course courseP P J Caprittos Dick Stickney a five yearold Sun Hatter gelding raced far be ¬ low expectations in his only local appear ¬ ance but cannot be overlooked in this field During the past winter at New Orleans the gelding raced with the best sprinters at the Fair Grounds winning two events each on an off track It may be that this fellow is only partial to the deep holding track J H Carrs O G Kelley J L Mc Knights pair of Bee W Bee and Ariel Act ¬ ress Sirejo Stables Land Light and P Strazzullas Liberty Andy complete the field in what should be a wide open race
