Set Return Engagement At Monmouth for July 7 7All All 43 Horses Judged at Last Years Yearling Show Eligible EligibleOCEANPORT OCEANPORT N Jf May 17 Forty three twoyearolds who were the stars of Mpnmouths parks first yearling show for Jerseyrbred foals play a Return Engage ¬ ment at Monmouth on July 7 The 25 males and 18 female youngsters were judged as to conformation etc at the first yearling show held here last July 9 This was a step toward stimulating the rapidly growing New Jersey breeding industry At that time as a further stimulant this years date was arranged a race for any or all of the 43 who were in the showrin which ihey might try to prove that now that theyre of racing agei ageitheuv theuv beauty is something onore than just skin deep It was only natural to call this race The Return Engagement That in fact is what it will be known as annually and it will be run each year one week before the day on which the New Jersey Futurity and the Yearling Show are renewed This years Futurity is down for July 14 in the Mon ¬ mouth oneeting that begins June 21 Star of last years show was a handsome son of Valdina Orphan out of the High Time mare Highdine He was shown by William Helis the Louisiana oilman and New Jersey horseman and won the nocTof veteran trainer Preston Burch wfio judged the contest Since then Helis sold iiim to Art Rboney owner of the Shamrock Stable Rponey with a beauty contest winner on his hands promptly pinned the name of Big Nose on the little fellow Big Nose al ¬ ready has demonstrated that he can do something besides just Jead the beauty parade For he romped over a field of maidens in Maryland thisspringwithpra j tically no trouble at jtll Besides Big Nose a couple of other Re ¬ turn Engagement candidates who have rung the bell in races this spring so far are Helis Emulate a chestnut colt by Round ¬ ers and End Play a quick filly by Jack High from the Renegade Farm of Mrs Alfred Roberts of Eatoritown N J Emu ¬ late zipped home at Jamaica on May 4 in the first start of his career End Play made it her second time out outIn In addition to this trio others of the hits of last years show include a filly l y Rounders out of Anza owned by Helis Banner Day a colt from the barn of Alfred DeCozen Newark automobile distributor and Percivale fashionablybred son of Jack High from the Sir Gallahad in mrae Grail owned by Joseph M Roebling the Trenton contractor The filly took top honors for her sex in the show Percivale and Banner Day drew honorable mentions as did the filly Champlain another Roeb iing hope who Js a granddaughter of Man oWar 4 Since the show several have been sold at yearling auctions Among them was the filly by Case Ace out of Agility who won j second place among the baby girls last year Mrs R duPont bought her for 3000 from Roeblmg But like all others yhp have found new homes since the yearling exhibition she remainseligible forthe Re turn Engagement
