Cpriniver Drives Home Ahead of Challe Anne AnneLaMontagne LaMontagne Filly Never Headed Finishing Two Lengths in Front FrontBELMONT BELMONT PARK Elmont L I N Y May 28 Harry LaMontagnes Conniver drove to a twolength victory over F L Flariders Challe Anne in the featured Nimba Handicap at Belmont Park Mill River Stables Miss Grillo the oddson choice finished third in the field of five Jbeaten another two lengths after trailing to the head of the stretch Ferril Zufelt rode Conniver who paid 460 as the second choice and ran the mile and a furlong in 150 The crowd of 21991 had no success what ¬ ever in rooting home the favorites in the six races two of them managing to take third money with the rest finishing fourth The weather was much more enjoyable than the form a light breeze tempering the brightsun v vConniver Conniver was last out of the gate in the Nimba but quickly moved to the front oil the inside followed by Challe Anne and Dusty Legs while Miss Grillo who had broken in front dropped back to a very distant last Conniver continued to bound along in front opening up a fivelength lead nearing the far turn while Zufelt kept a snug hold as she stepped the half in 46 threequarters in 111 Miss Grillo gradually began to close ground between the turns but Conniver came into the stretch four lengths in front and Zufelt began to push on the big mares neck as Challe Anne fought on gamely Miss Grillo came into contention on the outside but promptly cut for the rail losing some ground As Conniver drove on to the wire holding Challe Anne safe Miss Grillo gained very little while Dusty Legs and Pretty Valley were out of the picture soon after the start Conniver earned 4900 and was scoring her fourth victory in six starts this year She carried 116 pounds getting seven on the scale from the threeyarold runnerup and 10 in actual weight from Miss Grillo The latter was enjoying a prep for Mon ¬ days Suburban in which she has only 115 to carry Challe Anne earned a chance to start in Tuesdays Coaching Club American Oaks in which Willie Garner is to ride her
