JUDGES STAND I = By Charles Hatton Sisters Dams of Epsom Belmont Hopes Prep Miss Mommy for Arlington Comeback Coal town May Renew Controversy in N Y Top Flight Unfortunate as Producer ProducerLEXINGTON LEXINGTON KyM May 28 28The The Belmont and the Epsom Derby classic events for three yearolds on two sides of the Atlantic are soon to be decided sisters should be represented among the probables These are William Woodwards young Maraschino and Marguery They are the dams respectively of his Epsom Derby candidate The Senator II and his Belmont candidate Whirling Fox Marguery and Maraschino are by Sir Gallahad HI out of Marguerite which is to say they are sisters to Gallant Fox Fighting Fox and Foxbor ough II Maraschino did not run and The Jockey Club chairman did not make much point of racing Marguery but seemed more interested in adding them to his small and R a tan m r i n 1 01 mares ac uiaioorne we cnanced to be with him and Mr Fitz in the paddock at Belmont when the latter saddled Marguery for a twoyearold race and he ob ¬ served that it would suit him to win a race with her and send her home Maraschino does not have a twoyearold this year but there is a newcomer out of Marguery in the international turfmans American string This is a filly by Count Fleet whom he calls Fleet Vixen We expect you know that Whirling Fox is by Whirlaway It will be interesting to note how Fleet Vixen fares in training for she is by a Triple Crown winner put of a sister to a Triple Crown winner winnerV V Mrs E E Dale Shaffers all filly string won 176670 Jast season which is nice going for a stable made up ex ¬ clusively of prospective broodmares The Coldstream out ¬ fit now is at LincolnatWashington and Dale Shaffer tells us that Miss Mommy may return to the races during Arlington Park Mrs Shaffers namesake won the Haw ¬ thorne Juvenile at Chicago last year and the master of Coldstream says She has more size and fire this season Miss Mommy is by Bull Dog from the stakes mare Farmer ¬ ette andjhere is a sister to her among the 48 foals who promises to have as much substance and perhaps better knees By the way Shaffers standardbred Rollo is train ¬ ing well at Lexington for the Hambletonian in which he heis is a cofavorite with Demon Hanover Shaffer went last week to Catcay to participate in a tuna fishing tourna ¬ mentA ment A lively controversy has been waged on the relative merits of Citation and Coaltown rather unimportantly we think for after all they are on the same team Coaltown will no doubfc renew this debate if he is a punctual favorite in the Withers Mile this weekend at Belmont Park The subject came up at Calumet here today and we take it that farm manager Ebel hardt is a Citation man The Cincinnatian feels sure that when Citation has to run fast he will He only does what is necessary to win you know Once he runs out of horses to beat he doesnt take a lot out of himself showing off Indeed he has sometimes been shaken up when he was winning quite easily to keep him straight enough not to hit himself Much is made of the fact that Citations 2022s was the slowest Preak ness but then his field was unable to keep in touch with him and he was falling into a hole every few strides Considering his record which shows that he made up five lengths on Coal town in a quarter of a mile and had virtually to be thrown down to keep from passing Bewitch going six furlongs it is a little bewildering to hear it suggested he lacks zip These two c cs of Calumet will be at Arlington Park about one month from now It is understood that the Joneses assistant Harold Ward is shipping a division there from Louisville LouisvilleTop Top Flight may have foaled a goodish filly in White Lady whom the capable Sylvester Veitch showed Belmont Belmontpatrons patrons not long ago Whereas this daughter of Mahmoud is almost white Top Flight now has a twoyearold in the C V Whitney string who is black This is an Eight Thirty colt called Top Honors The 1931 twoyearold champion was this spring bred to War Admiral and of course the resulUwould be closely related to her son Sky Raider who has sired many winners Top Flight has been an unfor ¬ tunate sort of producer She suffered a stroke of paralysis y some years ago as we recall aqd the stud almost lost her She has been an irregular breeder White Lady is of course courseby by an Epsom Derby winner out of a Futurity winner and we should imagine that eventually she will be returned to the stud whether or not she wins another race raceTurfana Turfana Goldstream will offer a brother to Miss Mommy at Keeneland in July Riverlands brother Eagle River won for 8000 in his first venture at LincolnatWashington Count de Brignac is optimistic concerning the French Stud Books acceptance of American lines Dr Paul Corum of Midway who races a few horses tells us that he now has a yearling colt and filly by Bar Granite from his two mares One of the Danada Farms better mares is Camelia by Bull Dog out of Princess Camelia and she has foaled a Petrose colt this spring Eye witnesses assure us Fervent should have beaten Faultless in the Gallant Fox
