head andhead for the lead Baird went to the outside for his bid and Nictor went to the top readily then drew off to win by four lengths Paulas Star lasted to beat Flori ¬ zan Ace by a nose noseOne One of the disappointments in the race was the effort turned in by Old Kentuck a veteran stakes performer who finished second in the American Derby of 1944 The sevenyearold came out on the track wearing four heavy bandages and it is possible that the extra equipment was re ¬ sponsible for his defeat Both of his front bandages slipped during the running and when he pulled up his right front bandage was loose under his feet It appeared that he was unable to stride freely at any time H H BATTLE Saddled Fighting Frank Frankfor for his winning effort in the Palatine PalatinePurse Purse at Arlington
