Blue Counselor Draws Off in Drive Victor at Aqueduct By Almost Length LengthPrince Prince Quest Succumbs to Akerberg Colts Closing Charge in Banquet Purse PurseAQUEDUCT AQUEDUCT L I N Y June 22 Her ¬ bert Akerbergs Blue Counselor a candidate for the Tremont and Great American Stakes scored a driving victory in the featured Banquet Purse at Aqueduct today outgaming Ben Whitakers favored Prince Quest with the help of a powerful and well judged ride by Ted Atkinson The margin was almost a length at the end of the five and a half furlongs Addison Stables Arise the early favorite before being displaced in that role by Prince Quest finished a length and a half away in third place and a similar margin before G C Winfreys Uncle Edgar The chestnut son of Blue Swords Miss Chanery by Wise Counusellor paid a liberal 1330 and was clocked in 106 over the damp but fast track trackDrizzling Drizzling weather and a program devoid of names kept the attendance down to 16788 With the exception of Whirling Fox who finally graduated without con ¬ spicuous honors the favorites fared poorly poorlyEases Eases Mount to Rail RailPrince Prince Quest went to the front from the inside gate at the start of the Banquet with Foray Vina and Nifty in close pursuit Atkinson quickly eased Blue Counselor over to the rail in fourth place and began to move up strongly between the turns Prince Quest came into the stretch almost a length in front of Blue Counselor who continued to hug the rail around the sharp final turn while Foray Vina still held on fairly well as Nifty dropped back and Arise came into contention Uncle Edgar was still far back backIn In the drive through the stretch Prince Quest fought on gamely and appeared about to hold a slight lead but Atkinson literally threw Blue Counselor at the favorite and took command just inside the sixteenth pole drawing away in the final yards Arise finished steadily while Uncle Edgar ran over beaten horses Bold Leader was an even running fifth as Foray Vina and Nifty tired badly
