Lucky Greenock on Top Again at Detroit Track TrackLaunches Launches Successful Challenge In Stretch to Pass Chance Bea BeaFAIR FAIR GROUNDS Detroit Mich June 25 Lucky Greenock racing for R E Em minger came right back to repeat his suc ¬ cess in his previous essay to deliver a rather sound trouncing to 10 rivals in the Joe Hawkins Purse offered as the sixth race today This was fashioned under claiming conditions and at the end the winner held a two and a half lengths mar ¬ gin over F Spellmans Chance Bea who had set all the pace and who met the chal ¬ lenge of the victor stubbornly although futilely in the stretch This duel of the first two saw formed a gap of five lengths before Lees Summit who was third in the interests of the partnership of Grissom fc Sherman and who with his stablemate Grandciad was favorite favoritePat Pat Milligan was entrusted with the guidance of the winner and sent him over the six furlongs in 114 on the slow rac ¬ ing strip stripChance Chance Bea put up a determined effort shaking off bids in turn from Valdina Craft on the backstretch and Bubble Gum on the turn and these tussles left him somewhat short of his best when the win ¬ ner swept up on the outside in the stretch For a few strides Lucky Greenock and Chance Bea raced heads apart before the latter faltered and the winner drew clear Lees Summit was never far back in the running while saving ground but his best left him far short of the prowess displayed by the first two twoThe The racing strip was in a drying out condition following recent heavy rainfall and was rated slow for the program Over ¬ head conditions were clear and a crowd of 9409 turned out for the sport sportWhite White Spot Farms Little Matt was dropped down a little in quality of compe ¬ tition and given perfect handling by jockey R L Barber to tally rather easily in the mile and a sixteenth test that opened the card Barber declined to attempt to match the early pace of Limehouse who was sent into a long lead with Joe War in second place On the final turn Limehouse was done and Joe War moved into a brief lead but Barber moved at the same time and spurted to the front on the bend to win without being fully extended extendedLittle Little Matt was second choice to return 900 and when Sgt Jimmy lasted to earn a neck verdict over Ships Pass in the second race the combination was worth 10360 in the Daily Double Tree Tot was a bangup third as the favored Happy Doe wilted out of contention after showing brief early speed Here apprentice W M Cook was unhurt when tossed from Uncle Dave after passing the halfmile marker and running clear of horses
