Sam H Outgames Suffolk Opponents OpponentsVictor Victor Inches Away From Dateline in Final Yards To Capture Skyway Purse PurseBy By FRED GALIANI GALIANIf f Staff Correspondent SUFFOLK DOWNS East Boston Mass May 5 Under Darrell Maddens left handed whipping in the stretch Mrs E Haughtons Mrs C A Browns Sam H outgamed W L Huntleys Dateline by threequarters of a length in the featured Skyway Purse here today Two lengths away in third place was F Shaws Pontalba Blue Thanks Futuresque and Equihaze completed the field for the mile arid a sixteenth race raceSam Sam H paid 760 as the third choice and ran the distance in 144 over the fast track A crowd of 13852 were out for the day and had a hard time getting any fa ¬ vorite home only one scoring up to the feature While the day was clear and sunny there was a nip in the air and a sharp breeze blowing in off the ocean oceanThis This was Sam Hs first victory since January when he won two races at the Fair Grounds He had been out previously over the strip in a sprint and was honed for todays effort effortEquihaze Equihaze Goes Into Lead LeadEquihaze Equihaze making his first start at a dis ¬ tance in some time was immediately sent to the front with Pontalba Dateline Sam H Futuresque and Blue Thanks following in that ordeo Passing the stands for the first time and around the turn Equihaze drew out to a clear lead with Pontalba still second and Dateline moving into a closer third place Down the backstretcti it was still Equihaze setting the pace hitting the half in 48 Dateline had moved into the second spot displacing Pontalba as they swung into the far turn and SamH had moved up from the fourth spot Mid ¬ way of the field started to bunch up and as they straightened away for the drive it was Sam H on the outside and Dateline under Harold Keene fighting it out Equi ¬ haze had gone his sprint distance and dropped out of it to finish last while Pon ¬ talba was still close but nowhere near catching the leaders leadersMaddci Maddci went to work with the whip at the head of the stretch as did Keene and the two fought it out down to a few yards from the last sixteenth pole where Sam H gradually inched away from his persistent rival
