Arlington Hurdle Stake Attracts 23 Nominations NominationsFoxy Foxy Poise and Storm Hour Early Favorites for June 26 Feature FeatureA A record number of 23 horses has been nominated for the 3000 Arlington Park Hurdle Stakes on June 26 it was an ¬ nounced yesterday by the Midwest Hunts Racing Association and the Arlington Park Jockey Club ClubThis This event is held annually at Arlington Park and is the only steeplechase to be run at a major track in the Chicagoland area The race is run over a twomile course consisting of 10 jumps laid out on the turf course courseSteeplechasing Steeplechasing was renewed at Arlington Park in 1951 after a lapse of nearly 20 years It was a feature of the track in the early 30s Evidence of cordial public re ¬ ception came in the form of an increase in the mutuel handle for this event in 1952 when 52000 was wagered as against slightly over 41000 for the 1951 running To be eligible to run in the Arlington Park Hurdle Stakes horses must have started in two races on the Midwest Hunts Racing circuit in 1953 under rules of the National Steeplechase and Hunts Associa ¬ tion The Midwest Hunts Racing circuit conducts steeplechase meetings at Tryon N C Memphis and Nashville Tenn Louisville Ky and Indianapolis Ind IndEarly Early favorites for the race is last years winner Foxy Poise owned by Guilford Dud ¬ ley of Nashville Term and Storm Hour owned by Dr John Youman also of Nash ¬ ville and winner of this years Iroquois Memorial Steeplechase Other prominent contenders are Happy Quest owned by Charles C Jelke Chicago HiTeam owned by Robert E Wilson Wilson Ark Ginny Bug owned by Harry Nichols Detroit Mich Jarrin John owned by Howard Til son Lexington Ky Moot owned by P T Cheff Holland Mich Port Raider owned by J C Brandt Indianapolis Ind Queen Wednesday owned by Athur E Pew Phila ¬ delphia Pa Little Ken owned by Thomas Bullitt Louisville Ky KySeveral Several leading local riders are expected to compete They are A D Plamondon of Chicago and Charles Jelke of Lake Forest
