Work 24Hour Day on New Gulfstream Turf Course CourseHeavy Heavy Project for First Month to Assure September Completion CompletionMIAMI MIAMI Fla May 8 Work on Gulf stream Parks new tuff course will be per lormed on an aro und the clock basis for 30 days to assure a September completion date Jimmy Donn Jr vicepresident of the seaside track today announced announcedWeve Weve decided to work 24 hours a day at the start of the project in order that we may be sure of finishing the course by Sep ¬ tember so that there will be plenty of time for the grass to grow properly before our meeting starts in March Donn explained explainedThe The construction job is being handled by Fred W Hooper who is one of Floridas largest contractors and is exclusively en ¬ gaged in thoroughbred racing and breeding breedingDonn Donn revealed the turf track will be threequarters of a mile in circumference and will boast sweeping wellbanked turns turnsOur Our turf course will be one of the best in the nation Donn declared We are taking great pains to make the turns wide enough to insure races as true as on our main track trackBuilding Building the turf strip will necessitate filling in portions of the lake in the center of the main track since the grass route will be inside the dirt oval However we will not mar the beauty of the track since there will be plenty of water area remaining and we intend to beautify every inch of the new turf course Donn stated statedA A 25000 stakes the Donn Handicap will be among the turf features offered at Gulf stream in 1959 The race has been named for James Donn Sr president of the track
