LOCAL TURF GOSSIP. Jockey Taylor, who was hurt when Farrell foil in the steeplechaso race Monday and was takon to tho j Garfield Park Sanitarium, is reported to be para- j lyzed from his neck down. Jockeys Mathews and j J. Baker, who wore also takon to tho Sanitarium forltreatment, are reported to be doing well and will soon bo seen in.the saddle again. Queonship, which fell at tho Liverpool jump Monday, had to be destroyed yesterday. The maro was conveyed from the infield at Harlom to her stable in an ambulance and an effort was made by Mr. Tompkins to save her, but her intense suffering caused him to give orders for her destruction. John W. Schorr has purchased the three-year-old colt Cork from J. S. OBrien for tho reported price of ,000. Jockoy Coburn attempted to work a trick yesterday that at times worked successfully. The incident occurred in the third race, Coburn having the mount on the odds-on favorite, Little Scout. The latter appeared like a. sure winner until within fifty yards of the wire, at which point Picquart, ridden with determination by Lyne, drew up on even terms. Little Scout at this stage hung badly and would not respond to Coburns urging. When the jojkey noticed this, he raised himself in the stirrups and gave his mount a sharp jerk to give tho impression that Lyne had fonlod him. Aftor weighing in he lodged complaint with tho judges against Lyne. After questioning both boys sharply, Judge Trevelyan let the race stand as tho horses finished and -fined jockey Coburn b with a" caution that a repetition of tho samo offense would be severely dealt with. Just as tho horses wore about .to go to tho post for tho first race it was noticed that Senator Morrison, the favorite, was showing symptoms of lameness. C. E. Ellison, his owner, had bet heavily on tho horso and, to protect this monoy, ho sent trainer Mayberry to the jndges with a request that tho horse be excused from starting. This, however, could not bo done as, under their recent ruling that once a horso leaves tho hands of his groom ho becomes a starter, would have had to bo brokon. Had Ellison informed tho judges while tho horses woro still in tho paddock that Senator Morrison was in no fit Condition to start his request that the colt bo excused would probably have boon grautod.
