SOME INTERESTING RACING a Hot Finishes at Lexington Despite Unfavorable Track Conditions. • Hidden Jewel Wins for J. C. Milam and Jago for J. Livingston in the Two-Tear-Old Races. ♦ Lexington. Ky.. April 215. — Cold, threatening weather was again the order here anil it served to hold the attendance down to the most ardent racing supporters. Considering the conditions, a surpris ingly large assemblage was again on hand and the volume of speculation also was up to its former standard. The difficult going was resjionsible for an absence of the better grade of racers from the different dashes, but the small fields in each in stance was a contributing factor towards iiitercstim. racing, some of the finishes being extremely clos-and the earlier action keen. Five of the races, of which two were for two-year-olds, were at sprinting distances. The lgst two races were at over one mile. J. C. Milams highly regarded Hidden Jewel made good the expectations of his owner by an easy victory in the dash that he was entered in. winning from Busti r Clark, with the much interfered with K. J. Lynch in third place. Hidden Jewel displayed a high flight of speed and dr v from the others without great effort in the first quarter, but he was inclined to loaf near the end and had to shaken up. Jefferson Livingstons Jago accounted for th • other two-year-old UN in a manner that stamps iiim a good youngster, at any rate as a mud runner. The opener produced a rattling finish, with Peaceful Star in the lead and Billy Joe and Mountain Bose following. The three were driving to the limit at the end and were separated by small distances. Words of Wisdom and Mart re fought it out stubbornly from the start. Words of Wisdom just last ing long enough to win, mainly through the good riding of Albert Johnson. JOCKEY KNAPPS EXCELXEHT HIDE. Jockey Kuapp was responsible for Lucky B.s victory in the fourth race. That racer was practically beaten seventy yards from the finish, but knapp literally lifted him across the winning line to gain the verdict from Ernest B. Sun Maid won in. the sixth Met, after she haviiu no chance. She came with a great risli in the stretch and overhauled Tze-Lsi right at the end. Henry A. Porter, who has entered racing on an extensive scale, was among the arrivals today from Oklahoma, and will remain several days liefoio going on to New York, when the horses he Meads to race this year are now in charge of former starter Harry Morrissey. According to advices received here A. K. Macombers War Cloud will arrive in Louisville April :jo. He will be accompanied by jockey Loftus. who ha-, again contracted to ride for the Macomb-i- stable and will have the mount on the colt in the Kentucky Derby. Lady Alwavs came out of her race last Wednesday in a bad way as a result of being jumind on and badlv cut on one of her hind legs. She will Inlaid up until tall at least.
