SARATOGA SPRINGS X Y August The Delaware Handicap having a guaranteed value of 3500 and a net value to the winner of 2075 was the outstanding feature of todays racing offering and it was productive of one of the best contests seen here with victory going to Fairy Wand by the narrowest of margins over the Kilmer pair Sun Briar and Exterminator with a crack band bringing up the rear The GJf ford Cochran filly showed a tremendous flight of speed and held sway practically from the start Hummer her rider contributing largely to her success by the splendid riding he gave her when Sun Briar made his challenge Sun ftriar with his impost of 128 pounds was kept restrained by Bill Knapp for the first threequarters and when called on after rounding the stretch turn seemed fully able to pass the flying leader but his stride slackened ia MeHast aixteeHtti iBaa JuStf when he was expected to take the lead he tired a trifle and the filly led him to the finish Exterminator was pressing the pair closely near the finish and was going fastest Hollister also came with a rush in the stretch and might have been the winner under a stronger ride and at a longer distance The Porter with an impost of 125 pounds was outrun from the start having likewise been away poorly There was some comment by the Kehtuckians that this horse should be conceding weight to Extermi ¬ nator whereas in Kentucky
