CURRENT NOTES OF THE TURF At the Newmarket England First Extra meet ¬ ing June 15 1915 fortythree twoyearolds started in a race which is a record On that day 214 horses started in seven races which is another record recordIt It seems John E Madden secured one of the bargains of the Mackay sales in the stallion Spanish Prince II This young sire lias been bred to some of the best mares that Mr Mackay owned and lie certainly has been given a splendid opportunity of showing his merit something many young stallions have scant opportunity of doing doingTlie Tlie history of the running of the Spinaway Stakes shows that but two men ever bred tliree winners of this fatuous old fixture Tlie late James R Keene bred and raced three winners and John E Madden was the only other breeder whose stud produced three winners Mr Madden will have u representative in todays race In Ethel Grey The latter however will race in the colors of Moutford Jones JonesHoratio Horatio Bottomley the English member of parlia i lent and racing man early sensed tlie scarcity of I orsfs in Belgium and continental racing and s i t ver a string of twelve horses with his Jockey Asl vorth Since its advent this collection has win i early all the races to which they were eligibl some fifteen Other English owners nre no v preparing to follow the BottomUy stable and share
