CURRENT NOTES OF THE TURF Entries close today for eight valuable stake races to be run at Woodbine Park during the Ontario Jockey Clubs autumn meeting, from Seittember tl-i to October 1. They include the Toronto Autumn and Ontario Jockey Club Cups, each of ,500 added; the Durham and Seagram Cups, King George Stakes, Lansdownes Nursery Handicap. Grey Stakes and Hendrie Steeplechase, each, witli ,000 added. The reason why Lord Derby owns so few, if any, wayward runners is probably due to the fact that he will not have his animals punished with the whip. The late Lord Falmouth, by the way, would not allow his horses to be touched by whip or spur, and Lord Derby shares the same view, viz., that more races are lest than Avon by the flail.
