Start fair and slow. Won driving; second and third the same. ROSE STARK raced JIM SMICK into early defeat and took a good lead, but was ridden hard near the end to retain her advantage. ROSE MARY RYAN was close up from the start and was wearing the winner down at the end. DETROIT held the others safe through the final eighth. SHOPLIFTER closed up some ground. HAPPY HOP.O, hard ridden, ran well, but was doing his best to outfinish MISS FOR-TINE. Tiic latter cut across in front shortly after the start and showed much speed and finished well. LADY FINNELL finished gamely. ESCAPE was crowded back after the start and tired in tl.e last quarter. MALT HIS had a rounh race.
