DECLARE FRIDAYS WHEELING PROGRAM OFF DUE TO FLOOD FLOODWHEELING WHEELING W Va June 6 With the Ohio River on an unusual spree for this time of the season flood waters caused the post ¬ ponement of the eighth racing card of the West Virginia Jockey Club meeting at Wheeling Downs when the management an ¬ nounced the cancellation of Fridays racing at the island racing grounds early today Following inspection of the track general manager Wilmer Brinton Jr who remained up all night on a vigilance patrol stated that the eighteen inches of water covering the racing surface from the threeeighths post to well around the clubhouse turn could not possibly recede in time to conduct racing de ¬ spite the fact that the peak of the flood had been reached at noon noonHorsemen Horsemen were gathered in the office of the racing secretary and the general man ¬ ager to learn of the report and under the conditions all agreed that it would be suici ¬ dal to attempt any racing for the day With the announcement that the scheduled pro ¬ gram for Friday was declared off the origi nal card was disbanded and a new card of eight races arranged for Saturday when racing will be resumed
