IMPROVE MINOR TRACKS ON MARYLAND CIRCUIT CIRCUITTotal Total of 150000 Being Spent on Bel Air and Timonium Ovals in Preparation for 1941 Season SeasonBALTIMORE BALTIMORE Md June 6 Two of the minor race courses in Maryland are doing a great deal of rebuilding and remodeling in preparation for the 1941 meetings They are Bel Air which opens on July 23 for a ten day stand and Timonium which stages a tenday session beginning on Labor Day DayAt At Bel Air where G Ray Bryson is gen ¬ eral manager of the organization a new club ¬ house is being erected on a plot of ground just beyond the end of the grandstand near the finish line This clubhouse is patterned after the original clubhouse structure at Havre de Grace and will be 120 by 100 feet and will be a twostory affair It is so well along in construction that the roof will be on by the end of the week weekThis This structure will have all the features of the clubs on the major tracks with betting rings a dining room and in addition there will be a porch from which the odds board will be visible 1 ADDITION TO MAIN STAND STANDBryson Bryson and his associates also have started many other changes all designed to handle everincreasing business at the threequarter mile track The old section of the grand ¬ stand formerly designated as the clubnouse will become an additional section for the general public publicA A dining room in back of the old club will be made over into a betting ring and a line of niutuel windows on an apron at the back of the stand will be eliminated Downstairs in the old club section mutuel windows will be extended the entire length of the stand with a lunchroom formerly in one corner being moved to the rear rearStairways Stairways now on the inside at Bel Air will be moved outside and this is expected to relieve much congestion Another road is being built from Bel Air a U S highway into the parking area areaTimoniums Timoniums program of improvements calls for a fortyfoot extension of the main bet ¬ ting ring and a rearrangement of offices so that the full benefit of the forty feet will be available to the public Twenty additional windows will be provided under the new setupNEW setup NEW STAND FOR OFFICES OFFICESJudges Judges and stewards will watch Timonium racing from a new stand hanging from the grandstand roof and the old stand in the infield has been demolished The oddsand results board now along the infield rail will be moved back 100 feet so that the steeple ¬ chase course will run in front of instead of behind the board boardA A new fortyfourstall barn is being erected and the stabling area generally is being re ¬ arranged to care for more horses and a new unloading platform for vans has been con ¬ structed An additional entrance to the grounds from York Road also is planned plannedThe The entire jumping course is being rebuilt with the obstacles made along the same lines as the jumps at Pimlico except that the width will be forty feet instead of seventy five A new unsaddling area in front of the stand also is planned plannedSince Since Timonium racing is run at the time of the Maryland State Fair much work is being done on the fair end of the show with the total running to about 80000 while the cost of improvements at Bel Air is expected to run in the neighborhood of 70000
