The daughter of Port au Prince and Listening, at no disadvantage in the mud which prevailed today, broke in front and was never headed, reaching the end of the five furlongs with two and a half lengths to the good over the runner-up, Mrs. Monte Weils Knights Gift. Over Night, owned by Mrs. Robert McGarvey. was third and Big Burly, representing Mrs. C. Parks and Mrs. R. Scott, was fourth. An accident marred the running of the race and but for it Big Burly might have been a lot closer. Soon after the start Seamans Pal unseated jockey Joe Cavens, and in the tangle Big Burly had to be taken up sharply as did his running mate Skip Level. Brooks First Mount of Year Sharing the spotlight with Port List in the Joliet was jockey Steve Brooks, who was accepting his first mount of the year. Jack Hanover is the fillys trainer. Port List, the favorite, broke swiftly and before reaching the turn had a lead of four lengths and thereafter she was never in danger of being overtaken. Knights Gift was always close up and she turned in a splendid performance but she was not good enough for the Friedberg filly. In taking the place, Knights Gift beat Over Night, who also was prominent from the beginning, by two lengths. Big Burly was another four lengths back at the wire, but he made up much ground to suggest that had he broken well he might have made it interesting for the winner. The stake was worth ,500 to the Fried-berg stable and those who supported Port List in the mutuels received .40 for . Three Clovers, performing under the colors of Mrs. G. H. Emick, came from behind to get a neck decision in the Gold Coast Purse, a sprint of six and a half furlongs offered as the fifth race. The victory was a popular one and it gave his rider. Robert Campbell a double for the afternoon. Alar was second after having shown the way from the beginning, while Ilefetchit was third, four lengths back. Three Clovers was well up and in hand for a half mile and then, responding to pressure, started up next to the rail. Alar had shaken off Ilefetchit leaving the last eighth, but could not stall off the hard-closing Three Clovers, who was registering his first victory of the year. Devils Frolic raced with the leaders for about a half-mile, but then stopped so badly she was last in the field of eight at the end.
