The welcome news reached Brighton Beach Monday by cable that J. E. McDonalds Rensselaer - had completed a brilliant foiaign campaign by an impressive victory on Sunday in i the Grand Prix de Ostend, one of the great annual - events run in Belgium. The race was at one mile and a quarter and was worth about .0O0 to the winner, who was ridden in masterly • style by the veteran British jockey. Tommy Loates. Some of the best cup horses on the i European circuit finished behind him, and i Owner McDonald has decided to retire him on his laurels and bring him back to this country for stud purposes. Rensselaer is an American-bred chestnut horse by Hayden Edwards— The Belle and is now a six-year-old. As a three and four-year-old here he showed high quality, but as his forte seemed to be over longer routes than can be found every week in America, he was shipped to England and trained for hurdle racing. Both over the sticks and on the flat he acquitted himself with marked credit, especially where the conditions called for welter weights and supreme endurance. He retires with an enviable record, and is just one of the type needed to improve the stamina of the native thoroughbred. — New York Sun.
