SARATOGA TURF TALK Saratoga, N. Y., August 22. About midnight Thursday Joe Ullman and Leo Mayer came to blows on the sidewalk in front of the Grand Union Hotel, but were separated before any damage was done. The difficulty grew out of Mayers alleged reflections on "Kid" Weller, who is a partner of Dllmans. vThe leaving at the post of the heavily backed o-Jds-orrMamie Worth, mthefiftbnaeeodfiyvahtl" , the defeat of Nine Spot, the second choice, carrying nearly if not quite as much money as the favorite, left the majority of layers with clean sheets and Ullman and Cowan are said to have won 0,000 and 0,000 respectively, and the shock was so great that the unusual spectacle of a betting ring quite deserted was presented when the odds were posted in the next race. OConnors ride on Carbuncle came in for an overwhelming lot of adverse criticism. The stewards were busy listening to the rrotests of W. T. McGrath, J. G. Lyman and O. L. Richards. These horsemen claimed that W. C. Daly had used measures not in accordance with the rules in selling race proceedings. One of them had asserted that Daly had offered him money to claim horses out of selling races. The stewards decided that they could not interfere in the matter, as there was no rule covering the point in question. The stewards have called for the bookmakers sheets, recording their business in the Brighton Beach ring on the 23rd, 24th and 25th of July. It is rumored that Jockey L. Jackson, recently set down by his employer, G. B. Morris, is under suspicion. Miss Buttermilk was claimed for ,560 out of tne last race by Dwyer and McGuire. W. B. Jennings intends to winter ten yearlings and a half dozen two-year-olds in the east and ship the remainder of his string back to California at an early date, possibly after the close of the Saratoga meeting. He will handle the most extensive string of his career during the coming California season of racing, Frank McCabe will train for Perry Belmont, vice A. J. Joyner, resigned, to take charge of the great Paget string.
